Wayfinding Strategy for the Emerald Necklace

Wayfinding strategy and concept development for the Emerald Necklace Conservancy’s 20th anniversary installation of fog sculptures by Fujiko Nakaya as part of my appointment as design advisor for the Conservancy. The strategy leverages new physical wayfinding elements in the park as elements for “local findability” tightly integrated with external multi-channel communications about the initiative. It leverages existing digital location-based media platforms in a systems approach based on an improvisational visitor behavior where the wayfinding elements provide an open system for reference, orientation, access, and invitation. The FOG x FLO installation was a tactical opportunity to develop this strategy which informs the Conservancy’s continuing work in the upcoming years.
